Charles Darwin University is located in Australia’s most northern capital city of Darwin, a young, multicultural and cosmopolitan tropical city that sits on the rim of South-East Asia. As the only university in the Northern Territory – one of Australia’s eight states and territories – we are uniquely placed to provide education, training and research expertise to match the growing focus on Australia’s north.

We have grown from local community origins during the past 50 years to become an internationally renowned dual sector university that caters for students across the Northern Territory, Australia and the world. We offer strong education and training opportunities in higher education and vocational education and training (VET). The diversity of our study programs and delivery methods is rare among Australia’s universities.

We have nine campuses and learning centres, and deliver training in more than 170 locations across the Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. We have developed innovative methods of flexible delivery to broaden our outreach to students with online learning through Learnline, e-learning studios, campus Wi-Fi and mobile adult learning units. More than 50 per cent of our higher education students study online from across Australia and overseas, while two-thirds of our students are upskilling through our VET programs.

Proud of our community origins, CDU is a vibrant institution, constantly evolving, adapting and changing to local, national and international education needs. We enable staff to prepare students to be creative thinkers and effective contributors to an ever changing world.

We are closely attuned to the education, employment and research needs of industry, forging close partnerships with the burgeoning oil and gas industry, government and cooperative research centres. We have relationships with Australian universities in the fields of medicine, languages, marine science and Indigenous knowledges as well as with 18 international institutions and organisations.

Dubbed Australia’s gateway to South-East Asia, more than 70 nationalities call Darwin home and of the 220,000 people who live in the Northern Territory, one-third are Indigenous Australians. Charles Darwin University welcomes researchers, teachers and students from around the world, whether postgraduate, undergraduate or technical, to share in the richness of life and study opportunities that the Northern Territory offers.
