Introduction

Since establishment as a university in 1989, Dublin City University (DCU) has developed a global reputation for distinctive teaching, research and societal engagement. Through delivery of world-class education and research, DCU seeks to address challenges facing the world today and to develop the talent and knowledge that society needs. DCU is situated across three academic campuses, a sports campus and an innovation campus, situated just 15 minutes from Dublin City Centre. DCU prepares rounded graduates who can contribute in the workplace and in society. Over 80% of Undergraduate students can avail of internships or study abroad experiences. This approach provides opportunities for our students to develop work-ready skills in addition to academic excellence. Our student body consists of students from over 120 countries; we are strong proponents of widening access to 3rd level education with representation from mature, distance learners, and non-traditional access groups. In 2012, we were the first university globally to adopt the Age Friendly University principles; in 2017, DCU was the first university in Ireland to be designated as a University of Sanctuary, in recognition of the range of supports established to aid the refugee and immigrant community in Ireland, and in 2018, DCU was the first university globally designated as an Autism Friendly University.
